The City of Oxnard once again joins in the global celebration of Earth Day. Oxnard’s Earth Day 2015 festival will be held on Saturday, April 4 from 11am to 3pm at Plaza Park, located at the corner of Fifth and “C” streets in downtown Oxnard.

Spring Carnival

Ventura County Fairgrounds Foundation is pleased to announce the first annual Spring Carnival which will take place April 3 – 5, 2015 (Easter weekend). Event hours will be Friday, April 3rd from 5 until 10 p.m., Saturday, April 4th from noon until 10 p.m. and Sunday, April 5th from noon until 7 p.m. Admission is free and Parking is $5.

This exciting newevent will feature a petting zoo, an Easter egg hunt,  15 carnival rides with something for everyone from the spectacular to the kiddie rides. Games of chance, traditional carnival foods, live entertainment and more family fun are all on tap for the Easterweekend!

“We are having this Spring Carnival because we want to be able to provide an event for families to attend over Easter weekend.” said Barbara Quaid, Ventura County Fairgrounds CEO, adding “The Ventura County Fairgrounds is completely self-supporting and relies heavily on the Ventura County Fairgrounds Foundation to supplement capital projects and beautification of the Fairgrounds.”

Presale carnival ride tickets (sheets of 40 tickets) are on sale for $20 at the fairgrounds administration office Monday through Friday 9 - 5 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday at the fairgrounds Derby Club from 10 – 5 p.m. Presale tickets will be sold until 3 p.m. on April 3rd. Rides will take from 4-5 tickets each. Onsite tickets will be available during the event.

On this fun food walking tour we stop at six shops and restaurants for tastings and conversations with the chefs, owners, and entrepreneurs behind some of the county’s best eats. Our tours are informal and intimate, giving a behind the scenes look into the local food scene as well as insight into the history and architecture of Ventura. Partnering businesses include Spencer Makenzie’s, Paradise Pantry, Trufflehounds, Watermark on Main, Palermo Coffee, We Olive, Vom Fass, Ventiki Polynesian Lounge, Barrelhouse 101 and Sunflowers on the Square. Private tours are available upon request for groups of 8 or more. Tours run most Saturdays and some Sundays, starting at 11am. 24 Hour Reservation Required.

OXNARD UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT ART SHOW

The Channel Islands Maritime Museum will host its annual Oxnard Union High School District Art Show, opening April 4 and ending April 30. Art teachers at Adolfo Camarillo, Channel Islands, Hueneme, Pacifica, Rio Mesa, and Oxnard High Schools, will select outstanding work by their art students for inclusion in the show. Art in four categories will qualify for submission: three-dimensional sculpture, painting, printmaking/drawing, and photography. Ribbons for first, second, third place, and honorable mention will be awarded in each category. A reception and awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 5:30, on the Museum’s Upper Deck, at which the awards will be announced, along with the Peoples’ Choice. Admission is free, and the artists, their families, friends, and teachers are encouraged to attend. The Maritime Museum is open daily 11-5 pm. Located at Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor, 3900 South Harbor Boulevard, on Bluefin Circle, permanent exhibits include a seascape gallery of rare and beautiful maritime paintings dating back to the 1600’s, more than sixty world-class models of historic ships, including prisoner of war bone models, interactive contemporary exhibits and a gift shop.
